To me,
good book covers are those that make you jump, make you marvel, make you smile; they would leave a big room for imagination and interpretation. Typography is important, colour is important, but the idea is of paramount. Somehow the current technology would become old, out-of-style, but the beauty of classic, groundbreaking designs will always remain.
